Yoga Teacher Mentoring

Monthly sessions over six months, Jul – Dec 2019, Sundays 10.00am – 12.30pm

Teaching yoga can be a lonely and isolating job, but it is also incredibly enriching. Participating in a mentoring group will give yoga teachers the chance to have their anxieties and questions about teaching contained and thought about, while making connections with other teachers, and  feeling part of a community. In addition, every month's group meeting will have a theme where we will look at something specific about teaching. The objective will be to discuss, inquire and reflect, in order to refine and enhance your skills, to grow and develop your teaching style and you as a teacher. We will set goals and strategies to enhance your development between modules. The group will be limited to eight participants.

*Supportive space to discuss teaching issues
*Set goals and develop as a teacher
*Explore your vision and aspirations
*Themed modules
*Goal setting, strategies for development
*Connect with other teachers
*Teaching methodology
*Hands-on assists
*Teaching beginners
*Teaching different age groups and injured students
*Your yoga business

MODULE 1, 7 July 2019
The Teacher Student Relationship: Transference/Countertransference.

Your Goals as a Yoga Teacher
Complexities and complications of relating

The aim of this workshop is to equip yoga teachers with a strong internal teacher from which to draw upon, and a clear moral and ethical compass from which to contain classes and private client sessions. We will explore the importance of and how to set clear boundaries, and the essence of the teacher student relationship, the challenges and joys of holding a space for students.
We will start the process of looking at where you are at with your teaching, and what your hopes, aspirations and goals are.

MODULE 2, 4 August 2019
Hands-on Assists + Alignment 1
Practice assisting students and learn about alignment for different body types

This module is part one of the two alignment modules. We will discuss the topic of hands-on assists in yoga, whether it is necessary, the question of consent, and how this links into your idea of what your intentions are for your students and how you wish to impart your knowledge. We will explore and practice hands-on assists for certain postures.
We will look at alignment issues and common mistakes, and consider whether to align or not to align.

MODULE 3, 1 September 2019
Hands-on Assists + Alignment 2
Practice adjusting and learn about alignment for different body types

This is part two of the alignment modules. We will continue to explore certain hands-on assists, and will discuss your evolving ideas on how to impart your knowledge as a teacher with or without the use of hands-on assists.
